Music Magazine Plan

Today we have come up with a name; "ROCKA beats"

we've decided on;

the title must remain the same throughout all issues in order to show a professional link throughout, this will serve the same purpose as a logo and therefore will be used as a recognition tool.

the core genre will be ROCK; however we will include sub-genres as rock is such a wide category- we will include sub-genres such as pop, RnB, classical, acoustic and indie rock.

each member of the group will be in charge of one of four issue front covers and must bring forth original designs. therefore between this lesson and next next each person will have to plan their own cover as well as think of concept photos and fonts.

we initially decided on using a colour scheme as a recognistion tool but then later we decided that we could just use the same headmast instead.

the titles we drafted were;

fedora
rocapocalypse
ROCKA series

however, we perceived that these titles would be biased towards a certain audience; an audience that we would not want

our target audience are any persons who are interested in the genre(s) aged between 16-25

now we must decide on what graphics, fonts, images and tools to entice audiences we will use.

an idea for the rock/ classical cover will be to have a subject sit on a cello which is laid down on its side with a forest as the back drop, not only does this incorporate an unconventional style of classical music image but also a subtle rock theme with style.

Plan:
In our first media lesson, our group decided to base our music magazine on rock, with some moderate elements of Pop, R'n'B, Indie & Classical music. We then decided on a name, which our magazine would be called. After many attempts, we came up with: 'ROCKA beatz'. Our task was to do a front cover each, so we ended up choosing a sub genre for each person. For instance, Wing decided to do his front cover on 'Indie' rock; Aziza decided to do her front cover on 'R'n'B' rock; Elaine decided to do her front cover on 'Classical' rock; and I decided to do my front cover on 'Pop' rock. Although our topics are all different, we each had to relate our genres back to rock, so that our main genre would still be rock. This appealed to our target audience as the rock type!

Plan of my magazine cover:
Title: ROCKA beatz
Genre: Rock, with moderate elements of Pop, R'n'B, Indie and Classical.
Frequency: Every month.
Cost: £2.00
Target audience: 16-25s, both sexes, (who enjoy listening to rock).
Promotional offer: Free guitar pick signed be N.E.R.D.
Contents: (Shown on front cover) 'EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with new rock chick ...
Neena!' ; 'Introducing POP to ROCK ... new pop artists are now joining
our rock bands!' ; 'FREE rock posters ...'

Evaluation:

I had a look at different music magazines of rock, such as:

In this media lesson we discussed as a group our magazine title name. we came up with, 'ROCKA beatz'. It will be based on music, the main genre being rock, however in each of the four issues we shall have a contrast with rock, for example- pop/rock, r'n'b/rock, classical/rock and indie/rock. we came to this decision because rock was an easy genre and it fits in easily with  other catorgarys we thought that it can't be the same throughout all the issues so we should mix it with something we like ourselves. my group members are: Ana, Wing and Elaine. Ana will be doing the rock/pop, wing will be doing the indie/rock, Elaine will be doing classical/rock and i finally will be doing r'n'b/rock.

Magazine planning lesson 1

So we've come up with a name called, "ROCKA beats". This magazine consists of 'rock' as the main theme, but goes into more depth which includes 'Pop', 'RnB', 'Classical' (but more of a non classical feature), 'Indie/Acoustic' and 'Jazz', they're all sub-genre's and will be incorperated subtly.
We have four people in our group, so we have decided that each of us will do a theme each as our front cover. For example, I'm doing the classical theme, which generally means in a 'rock' term as 'non Beethoven style music', but more in a pop/rock style. For the photography I am planning to use my Cello and lay it on its side and have me sitting on it.  So it's not pictured in a famous classical way where I would be sitting with the Cello upright and in between my legs.
We tried several attempts at picking and choosing a name for the magazine, we came up with - "Fedora", "Rocapocolypse", "ROCKA series" but we finalized by choosing the final name which is "ROCKA beats".
We chose this name because it appeals the the audience which is targeted at older teenagers and young adults, aged 16-25s. We came up with an idea of having different covers for each genre each week, so for example week one would have the classical theme, week two will have the pop theme. So each front cover will have the "ROCKA beats" name but in different fonts styles, but then realized that this will not show them that this is OUR brand. So we came up with another idea of having the same coloured scheme, but realized this would be quite difficult. At the end we just decided that we would have a bright coloured scheme for all the magazines, with the same mast head with same font and same colours.
